Safely seated at high speed – functional switch unit for individual seat adjustment
Just press the button and the car seat adjusts itself to suit the individual driver. Elektrosil developed a switch unit including housing for an automotive component supplier’s sports seat.
The challenge
A seat manufacturer asked Elektrosil to design a control solution for providing perfect adjustment of the car seat for the back and at the sides to suit the occupant’s body size in the new generation of a sports coupé. The system had to match the seat design, be easy to use, sustainable and comply with environmental requirements. Development and production had to be cost-effective.

The solution
Elektrosil advised the customer on the choice of suitable circuit. A printed circuit board with connector, a silicone membrane and plastic caps were the components used. To optimally implement the design specifications the engineers called upon the services of a specialist designer and developed a plastic housing with four switching elements in line. The switch frame simultaneously served as the system carrier.
In addition, the Elektrosil team made minor ergonomic adjustments and set up the switch for low-current and voltage. The service life of the switch was increased by means of an abrasion-resistant coating on the caps. For the prescribed recycling, the composition of the materials used was determined and entered in the IMDS database.
The switch optimally completes an innovative sports seat with which the customer can position itself impressively in the market segment of automotive suppliers. The functional switch unit enables adjustment, even while driving, and makes driving safer.
The client was particularly impressed with Elektrosil’s interdisciplinary expertise, which found its expression in the assembly.
